Arthur Ford of Home Avenue in Trenton was charged with murder and weapons offenses on Tuesday evening, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said.

Ford was taken into custody in Pocomoke, Maryland, at a family member’s home by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, Onofri said.

Rahkeem Ortiz, 29, of Blackwood in Camden County died of multiple gunshot wounds on Aug. 17 in a Trenton parking lot, according to Onofri.

Ortiz was pronounced dead a short time later at a city hospital.

Trenton police received several calls describing a man fleeing the crime scene.

Through surveillance camera footage and witness statements, homicide detectives were able to identify Ford as the shooter, Onofri said.

Ford was being held in Worchester County Jail pending extradition to New Jersey, the prosecutor said.

Trenton has had 25 homicides this year; 24 fatal shootings and one fatal stabbing.

The capital city had 15 murders in 2019 and 16 in 2018, according to New Jersey State Police statistics, after recording 21 in 2016 and 23 in 2017.
